A chord inversions is a musical term that basically means to change the order of the notes in a chord. For example, a C Major chord uses the notes C, E, G. When you play that chord in it’s normal position, that’s the order that you put the notes in. But, you’ll can change the order so it’s E, G, C. You can change it again to make G, C, E.
A chord can be played in different ways in which we call the inversions of chords.
For example, a C major chord triad can be played in 3 ways. Here they are:
Chord inversions are the essences in music harmony as they allow you to switch chords with little hand movement. But more importantly, it is the smoothest during the transition which is what we are after. If you are new to chord inversions, it will be ideal to start with the diatonic triads of C key – C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am.
